Swap The World!

The NA and NB series MX-5 from Mazda has also been quickly snapped up in the joy of slamming more horses under the hood.  The RX-7 has been a popular selection for the LS1 or LS2 challenge.  But it is just has common to see a V8 FD RX-7 as it is to see a triple or even quad rotor FD.

Red Bull Racing compete in several events with their version of the FD RX-7, donning the name "MADBULL" which puts down a very tidy 1000HP with a weight of 1130KG.  Its skipper, 'Mad' Mike Whiddett has competed in many drift and Time Attack events across the globe.  It is our privilege to see him in his element once again as he returns to Sydney Motorsport Park later this year to show of the Twin Turbo 26B "killer".

Here is Australia, however, many lads and power-hungry hoons go crazy of the LS motors found in the HSV's as well as the BARRA engine commonly found in many new age Fords.  Two blokes from Sydney, Marty and Moog, (Mighty Car Mods), are no strangers to taking on big swap challenges.  Their arsenal ranges from an LS1 swapped S13, BARRA Turbo swapped Toyota Crest which comfortably lays down 9sec 1/4 miles, might I add.  Their most popular swap, however, is that of the H6 engine out of a Subaru Tribeca, which marries itself to the 2007 Liberty shell.  Comfortably sitting in the 10's down the 1/4, its a wonder more people haven't attempted it.

Why stay stock when you can swap?  Many people all over the globe have undertaken this mammoth task of swapping different engines into their projects.  It is never an easy task and many times ends in tears or explosions.  The most common/popular engine swap has got to be that of the LS series from GM.  Their variety of V8 engines come in several different litre capacities ranging from 5L to 7L.  In later years, many people have opted to swap LS1, LS2, LS3 and LS7 engines into their soon-to-be bullets.  The most common shells to be used are that of the GT86-BRZ-FRS variety, released earlier this decade.  The engine bay offers great space for maneuverability whilst installation occurs as well as after-thought space for a single or twin turbo set up.  As if you needed the extra power!!
